For the third year in a row, Lacuna Professional Solutions has been named a finalist in the Lawyer’s Weekly Australian Law Awards for Innovator of the Year.

After taking out the top prize last year, Lacuna is thrilled to be joined by impressive co-finalists in 2022 including Ascent Lawyers, Crossover Law Group, Law Ninjas, Lawcadia, LodgeX Legal, PwC NewLaw, SprintLaw and Telstra.

“Having been previously recognised for our innovative approach to service delivery, allowing clients to scale up or down the level of support they receive from us without being locked into a contract, as well as our ability to adapt to suit our clients’ changing needs, it was an exciting challenge to discover the new directions Lacuna could take innovation in 2022,” said co-founder Bronwyn Eynon-Lewis.

“Through our involvement with the Centre for Legal Innovation we discovered Josef,” said co-founder Allison Warburton. “Focused on helping law firms automate their internal processes as well as client facing operations such as intake, we saw an opportunity to use the Josef bots in a different way”.

Before Lacuna’s involvement, Josef had over 6,000 bots in rotation, each of which was involved in automating some type of legal task. However, Lacuna saw the Josef bots as an opportunity to share their expertise in an accessible, interactive way.

“One of the main reason our clients continue to work with us is our ability to bridge the gap between their legal expertise and the skills involved in running a business such as marketing, business development and back office operations,” explains Allison Warburton, co-founder. “The bots were a great way to carry through this sharing of expertise in a new and innovative way.”

Lacuna is currently featuring two bots on their new website, a Website Health Check and a Bid and Tender Tool.

The Website Health Check takes users through a short series of questions and exercises that perform an assessment on a website’s overall performance, generating a score that tells users how well their website is working. Lacuna then offers users a free 15-minute consultation to discuss the results which is followed up with three steps that can immediately be taken to improve the website’s health score.

The Bid and Tender tool guides users through questions about the tender opportunity to help determine whether it’s viable to pursue and get a sense of where to focus their time and resources or seek help. On completion of the bot, Lacuna will assess the score and offer tailored resources to help – whether that be a complimentary consultation, or downloadable decline to bid letter.

Founded by lawyers Tom Dreyfus and Sam Flynn and engineer Kirill Kliavin, Josef was built to transform the delivery of legal services and content, which makes it exciting to see Josef used for new and interesting use cases.

“The best part of my job is seeing what people build on Josef,” said Co-founder and COO Sam Flynn. “The Lacuna bots are inspiring because they use very sophisticated logic, making nuanced assessments to help people make important decisions. This is a level above automated advice tools than we’ve seen in the past. It’s also exciting to see Josef being used in more and more non-legal areas, like compliance, governance, HR and now marketing.”

Both Lacuna bots are free to access and help businesses make educated decisions about their marketing and business development, with several other bots in the pipeline for future release, a true testament to Lacuna’s commitment to continued innovation.
